I recently applied for a grant and found the process incredibly valuable for refining my vision and goals for the space. Answering detailed questions about why I started Solebury House of Movement and Art, our mission, how we innovate, and how the grant would benefit us forced me to articulate my thoughts clearly. This exercise helped solidify my understanding of what we aim to achieve and how we impact our community. It was an enlightening experience that clarified our objectives and I'm excited to share these refined goals and the clearer vision I now have for our future.
Why did you start your business?
I opened the annex to teach art & movement classes that enhance creativity, embodiment, and build connections. My focus is on nurturing personal growth through art-making and movement. Both practices can be transformative and enrich lives deeply.
What is your business’ mission or vision?
In the immediate, my vision includes diverse summer programming for youth and adults alike, with 2-hour workshops in fashion design, yoga, choreography, hand-sewing, knitting, crochet, flower-arranging, and mindfulness, aiming to foster creativity and community.
How does your business innovate or add value for your customers?
My business innovates by blending art with sensory experiences and movement, enriching creativity and personal growth, and offering unique workshops that foster community connections.
How will your business give back to the community?
Since we just opened this year, I have only a vision on how to give back: by offering scholarships, free community workshops, donating art supplies to local schools, and hosting public art events that encourage creativity and cultural engagement.
How would receiving a grant help you?
It would help enhance program variety, improve teacher pay and facility equipment, expand community outreach, and allow for more specialized workshops, Increase accessibility through a scholarship program, and fund visiting guest artist programs!
